No working smoke detectors in fatal fire

MILWAUKEE- The Milwaukee Fire Department said that on Sunday morning a man was killed in a fire at an apartment complex on Kaul Avenue and there were no working smoking detectors in the building.


Fire department was called out to a fire at an apartment at 6328 W. Kaul Ave around 3:30 am.


When they arrived firefighters found heavy smoke on 2nd floor and that is also where the male victim was found.


Firefighters acted quickly to get him out, but he was pronounced dead.


The department added that he was very close to the excessive heat and suffered burns.


A firefighters suffered burns to his hands.


Nine people were displaced and the fire caused an estimated $239,000 worth of damage.


The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the department believes it may have been cooking related and could have started on a stove.
