No arrests, few answers, 14 weeks after bar patron sold fentanyl-laced drugs that led to Grafton OD death
GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Nick Hamilton's death certificate lists fentanyl and ethanol as the cause of death.
Hamilton's parents chose not to go on camera Monday but told us no one has been arrested for selling the drugs that killed their son.
On May 5, the 28-year-old Hamilton and three friends were at the Railroad Station bar in Saukville.
A person police described as a regular patron sold them fentanyl-laced cocaine.
Later that night the four went to a Grafton home and took the drugs.
All four overdosed in the early morning hours. When one of the women noticed Hamilton had stopped breathing, she called 911.
Nick Hamilton died May 8th.
Fentanyl and ethanol -the chemical name for alcohol- are listed as the cause of death; cocaine is not.
Grafton Police Chief Jeff Caponera referred our requests for an interview to the sergeant in charge of investigations, but that sergeant did not respond to repeated messages.
Once they get the results, police will confer with the DA's office to determine if charges will be filed.
But at this point, Hamilton's family told us a suspect has still not been named.
Republican Representative Rob Brooks owns the Saukville bar where the drugs were sold. His office did not return emails and calls for comment Monday, but back in May, Brooks told the Associated Press, "It's a tragedy what happened, no doubt, and we'll do everything within our power to ensure nothing like this happens again."
Nick Hamilton's father told us Monday that Brooks has never reached out to the family about the death.
We have several requests to the Grafton police department for information on this case.
