MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Greenfield man has died after a police chase and shootout with Texas law enforcement Wednesday morning, March 4.
Officers say that law enforcement engaged in a high-speed chase with 33-year-old Douglas McMillan after he took off from a checkpoint along I-10 in Sierra Blanca. A drug K-9 alerted officers to his vehicle and officers directed McMillan to pull over for a second search when he took off.
During the chase, McMillan began shooting out the window at law enforcement and civilian vehicles.
When law enforcement was able to stop his vehicle using a PIT maneuver, McMillan barricaded himself in his vehicle and continued to shoot at officers, and officers returned fire.
He was subsequently shot and killed.
No law enforcement was injured.
McMillan's vehicle was reported stolen out of Arizona. He also has a couple armed robbery cases in Milwaukee and Kenosha according to online documents.
An investigation is ongoing.
