MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- On Jan. 1, there will be some new laws taking effect in Wisconsin -- here's a few CBS 58 would like to highlight:
Wisconsin State Park passes
When you purchase an annual state park sticker, it will now be valid for an entire calendar year the month it's purchased. Previously, regardless of when you bought it, the sticker only lasted until the end of the year.
Now, for example, if you purchase a state park pass in August, it will be valid until August of 2026.
Electric vehicle charging tax
Also, electric vehicle owners will pay more taxes in the new year. That's due to a new 3 cents per kilowatt tax that will be applied to all public EV charging stations.
The tax will not apply to charging stations at someone's house.
Addressing Wisconsin's health care shortage
To help alleviate Wisconsin's health care shortage, a new law will allow physicians who practiced or trained in another country to apply for a provisional license.
The new law will create a pathway for international physicians to practice in the state without having to repeat residency requirements in the United States.
