Milwaukee Fire Department highlights challenges for first responders
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Common Council’s Public Safety Committee has approved the Mayor’s appointment of La Keisha Butler to be the new director of the Fire and Police Commission.
Butler was questioned by the panel Thursday morning. At one point she was asked about reports that the Mayor wanted to take the Commission in a new direction.
She says the Mayor never mentioned a “new direction” for the Commission.
“It’s job is to oversee the policies and operations of the police and fire department. So in terms of a new direction, I think if anything we need to double down and make sure that we’re properly overseeing those two departments,” said La Keisha Butler.
Butler’s appointment still has to be approved by the full Common Council.
