New Berlin Police and Suspect Exchange Fire, Suspect Found Dead After Long Standoff

After a long standoff that involved shots fired by the suspect and police, the situation ended in New Berlin with the suspect being found deceased Saturday morning.

The standoff began shortly before 9:00 p.m. Friday when New Berlin Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 4600 block of Oakwood Terrace. When officers arrived, they heard multiple gunshots.

When the suspect was located by police, he fired at them. The officers returned fire on the suspect and he retreated into his home.

Negotiators with the Suburban Critical Incident Team were able to contact the man via phone, but he refused to come out of the home.

After the long standoff, tactical officers from Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties forced entry into the home and found the suspect dead inside.

The suspect is not being identified yet and the investigation continues.
