Nelson, two relievers combine to shut out Pirates, give Brewers first win

Jimmy Nelson struck out nine Pirates over seven dominant innings, and Jean Segura added a two-run home run as the Brewers picked up their first victory of the 2015 season, 6-0 at Miller Park Saturday night.

Nelson mowed through a Pirates order that roughed up Mike Fiers the night before, but was missing Andrew McCutchen and Gregory Polanco. Will Smith and Jonathan Broxton closed out the shutout for Milwaukee (1-4).

Hector Gomez doubled in two runs and Khris Davis brought in a run with a groundout to help Nelson stay calm in the early going.

The last Brewers team to start 0-4 ended up in the playoffs. The 2011 Brewers reached the NLCS after the slow start, and came within two wins of a spot in the World Series.
