Neighbors spring into action after man, dog fall through ice on Big Cedar Lake

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) – A Town of West Bend man who fell through the ice on Big Cedar Lake is expected to be okay thanks to some quick thinking by neighbors in the area.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the 68-year-was taking his dog for a walk when they fell through the ice near Penny Island on the north part of Big Cedar Lake around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The man fell into about five feet of water and a neighbor who saw the incident unfold called 911.

Several in the area went out to the scene with ladders and a canoe and were able to help the man and his dog to shore before rescue units arrived.

The Washington County Dive Team was activated as a precaution but was later canceled.

The man was in the water for about 15 minutes but was treated and released.
