MILWUAKEE (CBS 58) -- Today, Aug. 31, America's Black Holocaust Museum hosted a marketplace for local black-owned businesses to wrap up National Black Business Month.
The museum partnered with Milwaukee jewelry creator Papyrus and Charms to host the event from noon to 5 p.m. People could shop for everything from art to jewelry to clothes to candles.
Organizers say events like these are a great way to shine a light on smaller and local businesses.
"I always like to tell folks that when you support small businesses, we feel the impact of those dollars right away as opposed to shopping at a big box store so we're able to keep the lights on and pay the bills," said Lilo Allen, CEO and founder of Papyrus and Charms.
In addition to running Papyrus and Charms, Allen also co-owns the Bronzeville Collective just a block from the museum.
If you missed today's event, you can still head there for a similar selection of locally made products.
