Nanny locks toddler in hot minivan just before shoplifting spree

NEW YORK -- A New York area nanny is facing criminal charges after left a three-year-old girl in a hot car while she went shoplifting spree inside a Target.


Police say 37-year-old Christine Nunes left the three-year-old girl she was caring for in the back seat of a Dodge Caravan while she went into a Target store. Someone saw the child in the hot car and called police.


Officers quickly got the child out of the hot car. We're told the temperature inside the minivan was well over 100 degrees by the time officers removed the girl. Police say Nunes, the nanny, left the child in that hot vehicle for 30 minutes.


The three-year-old girl was transported to a hospital where she was treated for dehydration before being released to her father.


Nunes was arrested by police when she got back to the minivan. She was found with items she had shoplifted from Target. She's now charged with Reckless Endangerment and Petty Larceny.
