Multiple weather alerts in effect as a busy stretch of weather unfolds
If this isn't the most Wisconsin Spring week, I don't know what is. We go from temps in the 60s this past weekend to our first 70s Monday to high wind warnings tomorrow and double-digit snow totals over the weekend. There's a lot to sort out to say the least. Starting with tonight, expect rain and a wintry mix. this generally starts after 7pm. Best mix chance is for our northern spots. Here's a peek at 1am.
Shortly thereafter winds switch from south to west and really pick up. A High Wind Warning runs 4am-4pm Friday. We expect sustained wind from the west at 25-35mph with gusts to 60mph. Even though most of the precipitation ends any lingering snow showers come become fast moving snow squalls. An abrupt drop in visibility and slick roads would be the two things to watch out for. Then, all eyes on a long duration weekend storm that begins Saturday night and lingers through much of Monday. At this time we know that this will have major impacts to travel. There's a lot of wind that will accompany this storm. Winds Sunday will be from the northeast and sustained at 15-25mph. Wind gusts will be around 40mph. We are also splitting hairs on the exact track of the low since as it stands now, much of the area could transition from snow Saturday night to rain for a good chunk of the day Sunday. And highs will be around 40. Then as we cool this goes back to snow and along with the wind will create very difficult travel. There is high confidence in seeing totals over 10 inches in our northern spots. There's even high potential the I-94 corridor could see 6"+. South of the metro where rain is in progress longer the totals are more in question. If the low takes a slightly southern track, then even southern spots could see over 6". Regardless, the wind, wet weather and falling temps will make for very difficult travel by Sunday night into Monday.
