MU marketing professor weighs in on Cracker Barrel logo reversal
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The back and forth continues at Cracker Barrel. The company recently unveiled a new logo, only to roll it back after customer backlash. But some marketing experts say a quick reversal could create more problems than it solves.
Cracker Barrel had hoped a refreshed look would help modernize the brand and connect with younger diners. Instead, social media lit up with criticism. Just days later, the company announced it would return to its familiar, old-time logo.
Alex Milovic, marketing professor with Marquette University, says the company compounded its mistake by going back.
"If you're changing that logo, if you're immediately going to change it back, versus - okay, this is the logo - and give it time, everybody hates change," Milovic said. "Call me in six months and tell me if that's still a problem or concern."
Milovic says a quick retreat risks looking indecisive. While the old logo may feel safe, the brand may now face a bigger challenge -- atracting new customers without alienating the core that loves their traditional identity.
