WIND LAKE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Imagine your child practically born without an immune system, needing a bone marrow transplant, and then having to get another one several years later because of a leukemia. This is what happened to Alyssa Matuszak's daughter.
6-year-old Evie seems to be heading in the right direction now, according to her doctors, but it's been quite the ride. Now, the proud mom has made it her mission to be an advocate for those needing a bone marrow transplant, especially for kids. She's traveled to Washington D.C. to speak with politicians about making the entire process easier and more effective. Several pieces of legislation are pending. But if this mother has her way, the bills will become law very soon.
