MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Some of Milwaukee's sharpest young minds are showing off their recent projects Thursday afternoon.
More than 600 students from 50 MPS schools are displaying the STEAM skills they've learned in the classroom.
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
While Thursday's work is certainly impressive, organizers hope the STEAM fair will inspire students to continue learning, eventually becoming a valuable part of the Wisconsin workforce.
The students we spoke to say that message was well received.
"We practically used every aspect of STEM to create our boards," said Jade Marquez, seventh grader. "It was so much fun and that's what STEM is all about - helping people and having fun."
"We need more participation from students in Milwaukee," said Dr. Abe El Manssouri, science curriculum specialist. "Those are high-paying jobs, jobs that advance our society. An event like this helps students have that interest."
Students at the fair range from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Awards for some of the best projects on display will also be handed out.
