MPS students compete in ice cream challenge

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Public School students from the district's culinary arts programs competed in an ice cream challenge at Bayview High School on Friday.

Teams had to come up with a unique ice cream flavor that was judged by four people with ties to Milwaukee's culinary scene.

"The kids get to explore flavors, express themselves, get creative and extend their collaborative works working as a team," says Ann Marie Sims, a culinary teacher at Bay View High School.

The winning ice cream flavor was Bay View High School's Bango Helado con Chamoy. It's a mango and beet ice cream with a Mexican dipping sauce.

The winning ice cream will be sold at Purple Door Ice Cream in May.
