MPS job fair, CBS 58 addresses teacher safety

MILWAUKEE- Milwaukee Public Schools reports the district is hiring 100 teachers as part of what it calls 'normal turnover.' But in our recent Bottom Line Report CBS 58 uncovered a number of employees claiming their were injured or threatened by students.

We also found 32 percent of MPS teachers leave the district's high schools and Bay View by year three. So CBS 58 went to the district's job fair to ask their human resources officer how they plan to address these issues and how it effects their retention rates.

Dr. Karen Jackson, Human Resources Officer for MPS says, \"We work with principals but are hiring a sufficient safety staff so they're available in the schools.\"

Their human resources officer says the district needs to address student behavior but points out they have less vacant positions compared to last year. We are still waiting for the district to respond to our request for a sit down interview.
