MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) will close their Summer Academy, Extended Learning Opportunity, and indoor Milwaukee Recreation sites Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15, due to heat, according to Superintendent Brenda Cassellius. 

While indoor Milwaukee Rec sites will be closed, playground sites that include splash pads and wading pools will remain open. 

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community,” Dr. Cassellius said. The district expects to resume normal operations on Thursday, July 16, pending updated weather conditions."

MPS' free summer meals for students will continue to be served at 13 Milwaukee Recreation meal sites around the city.

Dr. Cassellius went on to encourage MPS families and staff to review the health department's tips for staying safe in hot weather.
