MPD: Police-involved shooting near 51st and Hampton leaves 1 suspect critically injured

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- MPD officials have released additional information regarding the Dec. 7 police-involved shooting.
A press release notes that the vehicle was stolen, and that the firearm that was recovered was found in "close proximity" to one of the suspects on the scene.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman briefed the media on Thursday, Dec. 7 at around 6:50 a.m. regarding a shooting that reportedly occurred near 51st and Hampton at around 3:22 a.m.
At around 3:17 a.m., police reportedly observed a car that was wanted in connection to an earlier shooting.
Norman said that a subsequent foot pursuit involving two men from a vehicle took place, one said to be visibly armed. The situation escalated on 51st St. where multiple shots were reportedly fired.
Two suspects were struck, according to Norman. One 19-year-old Milwaukee man was critically injured and transported for medical care, and a 22-year-old Milwaukee man was treated for minor injuries. A firearm was reportedly found near one of the suspects.
Involved in the incident were two officers, a 26-year-old male with eight years of service and a 27-year-old male with two years of service. Both officers, who were not injured, have been placed on administrative duty, in line with police policy.
The Waukesha Police Dept. is leading the investigation into the shooting.
Chief Norman mentioned that it was unclear if the suspect vehicle was stolen and whether a firearm was ever pointed at officers, noting that these details are under investigation.
