February goes into the records warm and dry
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 31-year-old Milwaukee man is dead following an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday, Feb. 21.
According to police, around 1:40 p.m., a Milwaukee police officer observed a driver in a vehicle without any plates near 70th and Thurston. A traffic stop was initiated but the driver fled as officers approached.
A pursuit was initiated. Police say the fleeing driver disregarded a red light near 91st and Silver Spring and collided with another vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot.
According to police, during the foot pursuit, the suspect displayed a handgun and continued to run.
Police say the officer gave several commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. The officer discharged his firearm, fatally striking the suspect.
The officer, a 43-year-old man with over five years of service with MPD, was placed on administrative duty.
The Waukesha Police Department is the lead agency on the incident.
