MPD investigating after 7-year-old boy gets ahold of gun, unintentionally shoots himself

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating Friday night, Sept. 3, after a 7-year-old boy unintentionally shot himself.

Authorities say it happened around 1:20 p.m. near 60th and Townsend. 

The child sustained non-fatal injuries and arrived at a local hospital for treatment. 

The Milwaukee Police Department would like to remind the public to keep firearms locked with a gunlock and secured in an area out of reach of children. 

Anyone in need of a gunlock may contact their local district to check the availability of free gunlocks.
