MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As a gesture of gratitude for the wounded detective involved in a shooting with a suspect in Milwaukee's Third Ward, community activist Tracey Dent and a colleague dropped off flowers, fruit and snacks at the District 1 police headquarters.
During the drop-off on Friday, Jan. 14, Dent called it the community's way of saying, "thank you" to an officer who put his life on the line while off duty.
Dent encouraged others to show appreciation as well.
"A letter, card, treats, stuff like that," Dent said. "Every little bit helps and just want to say thank you."
One of the cakes brought to the station said it simply and direct: "Thank you, hero."
