Mother Abandons 8-Year-Old at Hospital

Salt Lake City, Utah (KSL) A mother who said she was overwhelmed with her 8-year-old left him at a Utah Hospital with a note.

"This kid is rude and ungovernable! I do not want him in my house at all," the note said, according to court documents.

Child abandonment and child abuse charges were filed, according to KSL.

The mother told KSL she was overwhelmed because she had four special needs children.

“I told them that he was out of control and that he needed more help than I could provide for him. I thought that was ok and we could drop him off... that was a safe haven place,” said Kathy Sherrer, the mother.

State officials said Utah's safe haven law was never designed for cases like these.
