Moments That Matter: Oak Creek Students Share Something Good
OAK CREEK, WI (CBS 58) -- On a typical day at Oak Creek High School, learning looks a lot like it always does.
Inside an AP Biology classroom, students lean over their desks, working through genetics problems and probabilities — the kind of lessons that fill notebooks and whiteboards. But at this school, learning doesn’t always stop on the page.
Sometimes, it makes its way off it. That’s where Blue Crew Media comes in.
The student-run social media team meets regularly to create videos that capture life inside Oak Creek High School. From funny trends and dances to important announcements and school fundraisers. Their goal is simple: show what really happens there.
“When we post about informational things happening, like the senior class hosting a fundraiser, the community gets to see it,” said Emily Witt, a senior who’s been part of Blue Crew Media for three years.
The team’s content reaches far beyond the hallways — connecting students, staff, parents, and the broader community through social media. And while some videos are designed to inform, others focus on something just as important: joy.
“I like the funny ones and the ones that we do for dances,” said freshman Amyla Mehling. “I think they’re the ones that most bring out their personalities.”
Junior Megan Merkl agrees.
“Everyone kind of gets to play their personality in,” she said. “That’s the fun part. That’s what people really like to see.”
Together, the students create content that highlights everyday moments — the ones that often go unnoticed but shape how school feels.
“This crew definitely makes more of a positive impact on classrooms,” Amyla said. “If kids are walking the hallway and they see us and we interview them, they get cheerful and they get happy.”
Inspired by that approach, we decided to create a moment of our own.
With a microphone and a simple question, we asked students throughout the school to share one good thing that had happened to them recently.
The answers came quickly — and covered just about everything.
Some students shared milestones worth celebrating.
“We’re going nationals for cheer!”
“We’re State Champs!”
“All three of us made a cappella last week!”
“I just got another scholarship offer for football!”
Others talked about achievements both big and small.
“We did good on our geometry test, we got 100!”
“The senior class is having their first fundraiser, and so far, there’s been a good turnout.”
Then there were the moments that had nothing to do with grades or trophies — just happiness.
“Something good that happened to me today is that I woke up early enough to make my bed.”
“I got two Needoh's!”
“De’Von Achane saved my fantasy football season. I love that man.”
“Something good that happened is we dyed our hair blue for Oak Creek spirit — and I made a new bestie.”
“My mom just got me tickets to go see John Mulaney!”
“I got to see my friends today — it was really nice.”
“I caught up with some old childhood friends and had a really good time.”
“I got a new job!"
And then, one response slowed everything down.
“I’ve been struggling a lot with life,” one student shared. “And God has helped me through everything.”
Different stories. One reminder.
As Blue Crew Media has learned through years of telling Oak Creek’s story, every student has something worth sharing.
“You don’t have to be class president, you don’t have to be student council, you don’t have to be a star football player,” Emily said. “You can still be important and still be a part of something wonderful.”
Because whether it’s shared online or spoken out loud... every moment matters. A special thanks to Oak Creek High School students for sharing their something good with us, here at CBS 58.
