MKE County sheriff deputy squad hit on I-43 near Hampton Ave.

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee County Sheriff's squad car was hit on northbound I-43 near Hampton Ave. while a deputy was responding to a two-car accident on I-43.

The sheriff's office says the deputy was blocking the right lane of northbound traffic to protect those involved in the two car crash just ahead of his vehicle. During this time a motorist slammed into the rear of the deputy's squad. The crash sent the squad into a ditch where it hit a highway sign.

We're told the deputy is being treated at Froedtert Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office says this is the seventh squad struck since December. The same deputy injured in this accident was almost injured when another squad was struck on February 13th.

CBS 58 spoke with drivers Monday evening about the road conditions.

\"Terrible. Slippery. People still don't know how to drive in this type of of weather. They're still speeding, and tires slidding. I'm taking my time going 5 to 10 miles per hour - if that's what I have to do.\" Says driver Saquana Gray.

\"A bus ran a red light light over there at 14th and college. I drive a truck for a living. He could have stopped. The roads are bad. They're really slippery. No excuse for that.\" Says driver Ben Juares.
