MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It was a statement made in silence in Downtown Milwaukee today, on Oct. 7.
Dozens of people participated in a silent walk in memory of domestic violence victims.
Zonta Club of Milwaukee organizes this annual walk.
It's called "Zonta Says No To Violence Against Women."
They left city hall just before noon.
An hour later they were back listening to speakers, including Yvette Thornton.
Her daughter Kortni was killed by her estranged husband several years ago -- and Thornton was left to raise her children.
"We had to learn how to address the PTSD that they now currently have," said Thornton.
"The inability to sleep all the way through in the middle of the night."
"Intimate partner violence has seen a drastic increase in the past two years, and regardless of circumstances, be it pandemic or otherwise, there's never an excuse or circumstance that justifies the harming of another," said Lt. Colleen Sturma of the MPD Sensitive Crime Division.
Organizers of today's walk hope to inspire community action to change the violent trend.
