MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Most schools are on winter break, and they won't reopen until January. In some Milwaukee neighborhoods, that means kids won't have access to school lunches. And that's why the Walnut Way Conservation Corp has stepped up to provide free bag lunches Monday, Dec. 22, and Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 16th and North Avenue.
"Because the kids are out of school for the next couple of weeks, we decided that we wanted to do something to support the parents and making sure the kids have healthy meals," said Jerrilyn Freelon, Walnut Way Conservation Corp.
The bags contain mac and cheese, a sandwich, juice and a Christmas tree treat."
Jerrilyn Freelon with Walnut Way Conservation Corp says more lunches will be given away next week, Dec. 29 and 30 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
