Milwaukee's Soldiers Home to Be Saved

The historic Milwaukee Soldiers Home will be saved.

On Thursday, it was announced that a Madison-based developer, The Alexander Company, has been selected to restore six buildings to their original purpose which is serving veterans on the grounds of the Zablocki VA Medical Center.

The Soldiers Home is a major Wisconsin landmark that has fallen into disrepair.

The buildings are tucked between the veteran's hospital and Miller Park.

The complex was established right after the civil war and some of its oldest buildings are still standing, but are not in use because of age and dilapidation...

Some including the highly visible Old Main building are fenced off and empty.

New restoration work is anticipated to start next year with all buildings completed by April 2019.
