Milwaukee woman starts petition to end violence, asks for National Guard to help

Claudiare Motley was in Milwaukee  for his high school reunion when a would-be car thief took a shot at him. Now one of his classmates is trying to do something to put an end to the violence that left her old friend badly hurt.

Sitting behind her computer screen, Sarah Willis is hoping to bring down violence in Milwaukee.

\"I think it's just gotten to the point where we need to do something. Whatever we are doing, it's just not working,\" said Willis.

Through Moveon.org, she's put together a petition that asks for the national guard to patrol the city, along with a 9 p.m. curfew for anyone under 18-years-old.

\"if we need help, lets bring in the resources to help calm things down long enough for everybody to get themselves together and get a plan together. If that means bringing in the National Guard along with having them patrol the streets, I'm all for it. We need to do something,\" said Willis.

The petition went online Friday, nearly a week after her classmate was shot in the face.

\"My classmate was in town for our 25 year reunion and was shot in the face  the Saturday before the reunion,\" said Willis.

The shooting prompted her to take action.  She's hoping to gather 5,000 signatures.

Willis knows not everyone might agree with the strict regulations the petition calls for.

\"I would ask them what their options are, what would you do?\" said Willis.

She just wants an end to the violence and believes this petition is a step in the right direction.

The petition  states it wants the National Guard to patrol the streets starting July 8th to August 31st 2014.
