Milwaukee woman sentenced to probation after 6-year-old shoots 3-year-old
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A judge sentenced a Milwaukee woman to probation for her involvement in a shooting that left a 3-year-old child injured.
The shooting happened July 2, 2022. The criminal complaint says the 3-year-old child, being cared for by Shelly Baublit, had been shot by Baublit's 6-year-old child. The 3-year-old survived.
At the time of the shooting, investigators say the 3-year-old boy was alone inside the residence along with Baublit's children while Baublit left to get food.
Baublit, according to the complaint, left her purse with the loaded firearm in a bedroom on a small table beside a bed. It was not secured with a gun lock.
Baublit was charged with one count of neglecting a child and one count of obstructing an officer. She pleaded guilty to both charges.
In court on Tuesday, April 11, a judge sentenced Baublit to probation for her involvement in the case.
