MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee leaders kicked off an important week worth focusing on -- it's Fire Prevention Week.
Students from MPS' Cass Street School made their way to The Survive Alive House Monday, Oct. 6, to learn the importance of fire safety.
It was a star-studded event, with Bango, Bernie Brewer, Roscoe and MFD's Sparky all making an appearance for the kids.
A familiar face even made an appearance as the event's emcee. This year's theme? "Charge into safety: Lithium-ion batteries in your home."
Students learned how to watch out for potential hazards, with Mayor Cavalier Johnson giving them some tips.
"So, you guys, especially you guys, because you're young and you use a lot of electronics, you gotta make sure, you gotta make sure that you tell your parents and everyone around you that you can't throw those in the regular trash, okay?" Mayor Johnson said.
Since the event started, in 1992, over 400,000 students have gone through the fire safety program.
