MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — It's the kind of weather that will keep fans in other cities at home. But in Milwaukee? It just means wear an extra layer.
Despite high temperatures in the 40's and steady drizzle throughout the day, Brewers fans lined the parking lots outside American Family Field for a good old-fashioned May tailgate ahead of Wednesday’s, May 21, game against the Orioles.
“Rain or shine, we’re tailgating’,” said Alex Zabel, standing next to a tent full of bratwurst, beverages, chips, and wet shoes.
The wild swing in temperatures hasn’t gone unnoticed. “You got 80 one day, 40 the next day,” said Ryan Oleson. “That’s just spring around here.”
Still, the chill didn’t seem to slow anyone down. When they saw our CBS 58 cameras, high schoolers let out a long, gleeful “Woooooooooooooooooooooo” while flipping brats and burgers in the rain. Most asked not to be identified, they told us today is "senior skip day."
“If you’re a fan, you’re a fan no matter the weather,” said Ava Mathey. Brushing off the cold is part of the experience.
Even the youngest fans were on board. When asked if he was cold and wet, young Watson shouted “Yeah!” without hesitation—then grinned and confirmed he was still having fun.
And while many might call this a spring that wasn’t, Gavin Forster put it simply: “It’s been bad.”
But this is Milwaukee. Sympathy is in short supply.
“It’s cold,” said Thomas Wanke. “Just trying to do our best.”
Creighton Nesteby said this kind of day leaves a mark: “You can tell stories in the future like, ‘Man, it was cold out and stuff.’”
Inside the ballpark, the roof was closed, and the game was dry. But outside Brewers fans once again proved that they’re built for anything Wisconsin throws at them.
“I wore my Antarctica coat,” said Sam Minturn. “We’re good.”
