Milwaukee School of Arts students protest school cellphone policy
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A group of Milwaukee students protested a new policy in its school that they say violates a student's right to privacy and poses a safety risk.
More than two dozen students at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts staged a class walkout on March 16 to draw attention to a new device protection program.
The program would require students to give up their phones during school hours. Parents say they worry about their children not having access to their phone in case of an emergency.
"In the case of an actual code red, or a fire drill, or an actual fire, things like that kids should be able to contact their parents immediately." said Amanda Llecki, an MSOA parent.
We reached out to school officials for comment about these concerns but have not heard back yet.
