MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- What better way to take advantage of today's beautiful weather than to give back.
Today, on April 23, thousands of people lined Milwaukee area riverbanks to pick up trash.
It was all part of the annual Milwaukee Riverkeeper spring cleanup. Not only did they pick up tons of trash along the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinic rivers, but they were also cleaning up park areas in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha Counties.
"It's so important right now," said Jennifer Bolger Breceda, executive director of Milwaukee Riverkeeper. "There's so much nuisance trash out there, and litter, and pollution, and it all makes its way through the waterways through wind and rain and our storm drains and you know the Milwaukee river basin runs into Lake Michigan and that's our drinking water source and we need to protect it."
