MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police are currently investigating a shooting that left a 34-year-old woman and a 1-year-old toddler injured.
The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. near 27th and Chambers. According to police, the 34-year-old woman was seriously injured in the shooting. The toddler suffered a graze wound. Both the woman and the toddler were taken to a local hospital by a witness. Neighbors say it's hard to hear when a child in involved.
"It's heartbreaking and sad, but it seems like it's becoming the norm around here," nearby resident Alexander James said.
Witnesses said they heard several gunshots this afternoon. Neighbors would like to see more done to protect people in the area.
"Getting these violent people off of the streets because that's where it comes from the violent people staying on the street," James said. "I would like to see more change and send my prayers out to that little girl's family."
The investigation remains ongoing.
