UPDATE: 30-year-old man dies in shooting near 5th and Clarke Friday evening

MILWAUKEE, WI (CBS 58) -- The number of homicides in Milwaukee is approaching 100 with the shooting death of a 30-year-old man Friday night. The man died in a hospital from the injuries he received when he was shot around 7 PM Friday in the area of N 5th and W Clarke Streets.

According to the Milwaukee Police, when they arrived at the scene officers found a man suffering from a serious gunshot wound. The officers and the Milwaukee Fire Department performed CPR on the victim who was taken to Froedtert Hospital where he later died.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim was in a verbal altercation with a suspect who retrieved a gun and shot the victim. The MPD is continuing to investigate the fatal shooting.

On Sunday, December 30, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, members of the Milwaukee Police Department and Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention are scheduled to hold a news conference addressing the 2018 homicide rate and non-fatal shooting numbers in Milwaukee.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police are currently investigating a shooting.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

The Milwaukee Fire Department confirms that one male patient was taken to a local hospital.

There is currently no word on his condition.

Police have not released a motive or said whether or not there are any suspects in custody.
