Police: Milwaukee police officer shoots suspect armed with knives, additional officer also struck by gunfire

UPDATE: MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee Police officer is recovering after being struck by gunfire on Thursday evening.

Police initially responded to a domestic dispute near Hawley and Main. They encountered the suspect who they say was armed with several knives.

Police say an officer fired several times, striking the suspect in a lower extremity.

While firing his weapon, the officer also struck another Milwaukee Police officer with gunfire. That police officer sustained an injury to his foot. Inspector Thomas Sigler says the injured officer is doing well for having suffered a gunshot injury.

The officer who fired his weapon is a 21-year-old male with 1 year of experience. He has been placed on administrative leave as part of standard operating procedures.

The injured police officer is a 25-year-old male with 5 and a half years of experience.

The suspect is a 48-year-old Milwaukee resident who is being treated for what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.

UPDATE: MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police confirm that there was an officer-involved shooting on Hawley and Main Street.

One officer suffered a non-life threatening injury.

The suspect also suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken into custody.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police are currently on scene of a situation at 60th and Main.

Details are very limited at this time and a Police Sergeant from District 3 says, "The situation is unfolding."

CBS 58 News has a crew on the scene where the intersection is blocked off and police could be seen surrounding a person on the ground.

The Milwaukee Fire Department confirms that two were transported to Froedtert Hospital. 

There are no other details being released at this time.
