Milwaukee police horse 'Prince' retires after 19 years of service

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A mounted patrol unit for the Milwaukee Police Department retired after 19 years of service.

"Prince" is a 22-year-old Percheron Cross with Quarter horse, who joined the department from an Amish farm in northern Wisconsin.

Shelly Stinson, Executive Vice President of the MPD Mounted Patrol Foundation, tells CBS 58 Prince was a staple at many events in the community; many may recognize him as the side-stepping horse at music events.

Prince will spend his retirement with his partner of 15 years, Officer Steve White, and his family who will care for him.

"Thank you to Prince for keeping our community safe," the MPD Mounted Patrol Foundation said on Facebook.

Prince's last day on the force was Tuesday, Dec. 10.
