Milwaukee Police Hand out Care Packages to Homeless
Members of the Milwaukee Police Department's Homeless Outreach Team gave out care packages to those living on the streets today.
With the help of the Roundy's corporation boxes full of food, clothes and other necessities were distributed at a local homeless shelter. The outreach team says this time of year is especially important to show support for the homeless.
“This time of year is especially important because it's after the holiday season and the spirit of giving is kind of dying down and this is the perfect time to continue to engage our homeless community and continue to build those relationships to get them into housing,” said a Milwaukee Police Officer.
Members of the outreach team are specially trained to deal with homeless people who may have mental health or drug issues.
There are about 100 officers from each district who make up the team.
