Milwaukee PD admits mishandling of rape case, transfers investigation to different agency

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department apologized Wednesday, Feb. 3, to a victim in a mishandled rape case.

The woman, who says she was sexually assaulted in 2014, reached a settlement with the city.

She sued, in part because her name, police interview and investigative files were leaked.

Her case will now be investigated by another agency.

The department will also change its policies regarding crime victims' rights.

In new court documents, MPD said "In your case, we fell short and we deeply apologize for the trauma and loss of trust this caused," and "Please know your decision to seek accountability has affected real change."
