MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has revealed details about the victims of a shooting that took place Monday, Jan. 29, near N. 38th and W. Stark Street.

Sixteen-year-old Antarion Hassell and 21-year-old Dayvon Hood were identified as the two who died after firing shots at each other.

The shooting prompted a call to action from city leaders.

"There needs to be a legislative fix to stop people from getting access to guns who shouldn't have them in the first place," said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

Johnson addressed the latest incident of gun violence in Milwaukee Tuesday.

Police say Hassell died at the scene and Hood was taken to Froedtert Hospital where he died from his injuries. Police say the cause of the shootout is still unknown.

The mayor says city agencies, like the Office of Community Wellness and Safety, are continuing their efforts to help prevent crimes like these.

"We are working to make sure that office is in a position where it's more nimble to be able to work with community-based organizations to get resources out there to stop some of these incidents," Johnson said.

We spoke with the mother of the 16-year-old boy killed. She said she's heartbroken and the pain she's feeling is a pain no mother should ever have to feel.
