MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A grandmother's heartbreak, after her 13-year-old grandson was killed while riding his bike to the store.

This is Amare Crump. A joy to be around. He was on his way to pick up some fried chicken for lunch yesterday, but he never made it there.

"He was cool. We were good. I was proud of him," said Carol Dacquisto, Amare's grandma.

And that's the first photo this grandma has of herself with Amare Crump, who had so much ahead of him.

"He just graduated. He was so excited, and he was gonna be in 9th grade," said Dacquisto.

Dacquisto says Crump was good at math. He knew how to fix a fence and do carpentry.

"He's still a kid. You know and he had a good heart so, and I don't care what he would've did, I know he would've been good at it," said Dacquisto.

The memories are all that's left.

"When I realize he's not gonna come home for real, that's when it's really gonna kick me in my butt," said Dacquisto.

Milwaukee police say one car turned off the side street to go north on 76th Street and hit a northbound vehicle hard.

"And that turning car misjudged the speeding car because the speeding car was so fast and then that car went up on the sidewalk, hit my grandson," said Dacquisto.

The accident Thursday was just a block from the home where the 13-year-old lived with his grandma. Family saw police down the street and walked there, but Dacquisto just couldn't.

"I could barely walk from the street to my grass, I was so sick, I just I knew, I knew because he didn't come home," said Dacquisto.

The car that hit Crump also hit three parked cars. The driver, a 22-year-old, was hospitalized with non-fatal injuries.

"There's a lot of speeding going on that's unnecessary, and my grandson would be alive today if people didn't try to speed so much," said Dacquisto.

It's the second fatal crash on 76th Street this week. On Monday, Taylor Poirier, a father of two with twins on the way, died days after a crash at 76th and Florist.

The families of both car crash victims are struggling with burial costs. Here are their Go Fund Me pages.
