Milwaukee mother charged after 3-year-old injured with gun in home
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee woman has been charged after her 3-year-old child was injured with a gun in her home.
It happened last Wednesday, July 19, near 64th and Villard.
Twenty-nine-year-old Shanice Dison is being charged with neglecting a child.
According to the criminal complaint, Dison was working in her home when she and her niece heard a loud "boom" from a bedroom.
They ran to the bedroom closet where the 3-year-old and another child were playing, and discovered the door was locked.
Dison broke down the door and found one of the children injured, and a gun on the ground of the closet.
When questioned by investigators, the complaint says Dison claimed she purchased a pistol about a month ago and that the gun was normally kept in a safe. She said the night prior to the shooting, she had taken the gun out to show a friend.
Authorities say no gun safe was found inside the home.
The complaint says the child lost her right index finger as a result of the shooting.
In court Monday, bond was set at $2,500.
Dison is due back in court on Aug. 2.
