Milwaukee man with terminal disease needs kidney transplant

Gabriel Tellez never imagined a routine checkup would result in the worst news of his life; Tellez has end stage renal disease. His only hope for survival is a transplant, but Gabriel’s name is fifth on a wait list at Froedtert Hospital.

“I was like desperate, I wanted to cry, I didn't know what to do. I thought he [doctor] was like lying to me or he was joking,” says Tellez.

He said his diagnosis still doesn’t sink in.

“I felt like I was going to die, like that was the end for me. I still don't know if I’m going to live,” describes Gabriel.

He now goes through excruciating dialysis treatment four times a week, and has to take several medications without full medical coverage.

He is out of work because of his condition, bills are piling up, and his health is weakening.

Gabriel’s family members tried to donate their kidneys, but due to medical reasons the transplants were not possible, that's why he needs help.
