Nearly 2 years after fire, Eden Meat Market rises from the ashes
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man was sentenced Thursday, July 6 for the killing of the mother of three of his children nearly a year ago.
Wilson Medina Cruz pleaded guilty earlier this year to first degree reckless homicide in the death of 24-year-old Ninoshka Maestre Lozada.
Investigators said the incident happened on July 18, 2022 near 72nd and Greenfield Avenue in West Allis. Medina Cruz and Lozada were a couple for two-to-three years, according to the investigation.
The shooting was the result of a domestic dispute over another woman Medina Cruz was involved with.
At Thursday's hearing, Medina Cruz was sentenced to 24 years in prison with 15 years of extended supervision.
Medina Cruz, who spoke in Spanish and whose words were translated through an interpreter, asked the victim's family for forgiveness before receiving his sentence.
"I know that to say, 'I'm sorry,' is not going to fix anything, it's not going to fix the suffering, and the emptiness," Medina Cruz said via an interpreter. "But I want to assure you that this apology is coming from the deepest part of my heart."
Lozada's mother also spoke at the sentencing hearing.
"My life has changed, his children's lives have changed because… because his children no longer have a mother," Carmen Lozada said in Spanish and translated via an interpreter.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for July 26.
