Milwaukee man pleads guilty in shooting that critically injured 6-year-old niece

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man pleaded guilty Monday, May 6 in the shooting of his 6-year-old niece.

Thirty-year-old John Anthony Jackson Jr. was charged with first-degree reckless injury and first-degree recklessly endangering safety after the shooting near 49th and Meinecke in July of 2022.

According to a criminal complaint, the girl's father told investigators he was asleep next to the child when he heard multiple gunshots coming from outside of the residence. He then looked at his 6-year-old daughter and realized she was shot.

The girl suffered critical injuries.

Investigators interviewed Jackson, who said that he decided to "shoot up the house" because he was "fed up" with the child's father.

The complaint says he admitted to firing about 12 times.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 21.
