Milwaukee man accused of leaving 1-year-old in scalding hot bath, burning her body
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 27-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of leaving a 1-year-old in a scalding hot bath and burning her body.
On Dec. 9, the baby girl was brought to Children's Wisconsin with severe burns to a large portion of her body including her legs, chest, back, and shoulder.
"It broke my heart, seeing my daughter and seeing the condition her skin was in, knowing how traumatizing this is going to be and knowing how long it’s going to take for her skin to recover and get back to its normal color, it’s definitely heartbreaking," said her father, Anthony Wilson.
According to a criminal complaint, investigators learned Akeem Saygo had been watching the baby, as well as a 4-year-old child, at a residence near 20th and Stark.
The complaint says Saygo put the baby in the tub in the bathroom, ran water, and went downstairs to do laundry. Saygo then returned to find the child crying with burns on her body. In a text to the baby's mother, investigators said Saygo wrote, "I put her in the tub first and left the hot water on swear to god I did not do that on purpose."
The baby's mother returned home and brought the child to the hospital. Officials say the 1-year-old had second-degree burns on 15 percent of her body and required surgery. She has a high risk of permanent scarring.
"Honestly, I really want justice for my daughter. I want to make sure justice is served. I want to make sure he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," said Wilson, "And I honestly want parents to be aware, you should definitely be aware of who you have around your kids, don’t put anything past anybody."
Saygo has been charged with one count of neglecting a child, consequence is great bodily harm. He's due in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 23.
