MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- People in Milwaukee are coming together to promote a safe summer.
The Office of Violence Prevention kicked off the Promise Zones initiative Friday.
The program encourages kids to get involved in their neighborhoods, or "zones," to keep the community clean, safe and active.
"It's important because this is a positive approach to getting young people active in their neighborhood and helping people take ownership of the safety in their neighborhood," Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton said.
The city is teaming up with Milwaukee police, Running Rebels, and Milwaukee God Squad.
