Milwaukee leaders highlight contributions of Hispanic community members to the city
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We've flipped the calendar from September to October, but Hispanic Heritage Month continues for another couple weeks.
Thursday, Oct. 1, the rotunda at Milwaukee's City Hall was the scene of a Hispanic Heritage Month event.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson was there, and the event highlighted the contributions of Milwaukee's Latino community to the city. One of Thursday's speakers, Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa, said Milwaukee needs more Latino workers in city government.
"We know that the number of Latino city workers here in Milwaukee is far behind other city workers," said Ald. Zamarripa. "And so I hope events like this help to spread the word that the city is a place you can come to apply to work for and serve your community...our community."
The observance of Hispanic Heritage Month continues through Oct. 15.
