Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit to offer resources to local fathers
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The 2023 Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit aims to provide essential resources and support to fathers in the community. Hosted by Mayor Cavalier Johnson's office along with various community groups, the event offers information and services in areas such as health literacy, parenting, employment and child support interest debt relief.
This year's theme is "The Gift of Fatherhood," emphasizing the vital role fathers play in their children's lives. The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Destiny Youth Plaza in Milwaukee.
A variety of workshops will be available at the summit, designed to address different aspects of fatherhood. Topics will include co-parenting challenges, led by Syvell Hall in "Baby Mama Drama," and post-prison life, led by Ed Hennings in "Fatherhood After Prison."
Workshops on blended families, social media dangers and mental health awareness will also be featured. Participants can also look forward to interactive discussions led by experts such as Kwabena Nixon and Dr. Zeno Franco.
Admission is free, though pre-registration is required.
Incentives for participation include a $50 payment to fathers for completing a survey, sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Free pick-up and drop-off locations are available at North and Southside stops to facilitate attendance. Food will be provided at the event, along with raffles for Milwaukee Bucks tickets and gift cards.
