MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee’s Department of Public Works is going green.
The city is adding electric vehicles to its parking enforcement fleet. The new cars are smaller than the Jeeps the city is currently using.
Mayor Tom Barrett says the vehicles will make parking enforcement more efficient and save the city thousands of dollars a year on fuel.
“The city wants to have less of a carbon footprint, less of a physical footprint and less physical wear and tear for our operators,” Barrett said. “That we accomplish with these new electric vehicles.”
Milwaukee is the only city in the Midwest to use these new vehicles.
Parking enforcement officers started driving them on Tuesday.
